Every name matters. At Deerfield Beach’s third annual Miles for Memories 5K, families will honor babies lost too soon while funding research and support for others facing pregnancy and infant loss.
The South Florida Chapter of Star Legacy Foundation hosts the timed run/walk Saturday, November 14, 2026, at Quiet Waters Park, 401 S. Powerline Road. Registration opens at 6 a.m.; the race starts at 7 a.m.
The national nonprofit works to prevent stillbirth and other pregnancy and neonatal losses through research, education, advocacy and family support. The stakes: CDC data says there are 21,000 stillborn babies each year, affecting approximately 1 in 175 births.
“Pregnancy and infant loss affect so many more families than people realize, and unfortunately, a lot of parents go through it feeling very alone,” South Florida Chapter Chair Anais Bush tells Browardist. “When I lost my daughter, Elise, I saw firsthand how few local resources there were for grieving parents, and that’s what led me to become part of the Star Legacy Foundation. This race means so much to me because it gives us a place to come together, say our babies’ names, and remind each other that we don’t have to go through this alone.”
Entry costs $40 for adults and $25 for children ages 2–12; children under 2 are free. Register by October 24 for a guaranteed event T-shirt, with the option to print a baby’s name on the back. Local vendors and a remembrance ceremony round out the morning.
“In just three years, our community has come together to raise more than $30,000 to support families who need it,” says Bush. “This year, with more than 100 families joining us at Quiet Waters Park, we’re hoping to raise another $15,000 so we can continue growing that local support. More than anything, it’s just a really special morning to be together. We’ll have the 5K, a silent auction, and hopefully that feeling that everyone who walks through the door is surrounded by people who understand.”
