Spontaneous international travel just got a whole lot easier.
The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism has teamed up with Tropic Ocean Airways to launch Bahamas In A Day, a 25-minute seaplane hop from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport straight to Bimini. And, yes, you can be back home in time for dinner.
Available every Saturday starting February 21, the new experience departs from Tropic Ocean Airways’ private Fort Lauderdale lobby, where guests arrive just 30 minutes before takeoff. Wheels (well, floats) up at 8:30 a.m., splash down at North Bimini Seaplane Base by 9 a.m., eight glorious hours of island time, and wheels up again at 5 p.m. You’re back in Fort Lauderdale by 5:30 p.m.
Yes, that’s a full international beach day without packing a suitcase.
The launch promo rate is $550 per person (a $100 savings off the standard $650 fare) for bookings made before March 1. The experience includes round-trip seaplane flights, free valet parking and access to Tropic Ocean’s private lounge stocked with Wi-Fi, snacks and beverages.
Once in Bimini, the day is yours and there are several add-ons available. You can snorkel Honeymoon Harbour’s crystal-clear waters, go bonefishing through shallow mangroves, book a hammerhead shark dive, swim with wild dolphins or simply rent a golf cart and beach-hop your way around the island.
The Bahamas In A Day concept was designed to remove the usual “international trip” barriers like long stays, complicated logistics and hefty planning. Instead, it’s wake up in Broward, toes in Bahamian sand before 9 a.m.
