South Florida's bakery scene is about to welcome a name that's already built a very devoted following in New England. On Tuesday, July 14, Bakey will officially open its first Florida location in Hallandale Beach, introducing its handcrafted babka, fresh breads and all-day café menu to Broward County.
The new bakery, located at 668 W. Hallandale Beach Blvd., takes over the former Kosher Bagel Cove space and marks the beginning of Bakey's South Florida expansion. According to the company's website, additional locations are planned for Fort Lauderdale and Aventura.
Founded in Massachusetts in 2021, Bakey has grown to five locations around the Boston area under the direction of acclaimed baker Chef Uri Scheft. Widely credited with helping introduce babka to a broader American audience, Scheft previously founded Lehamim Bakery in Tel Aviv before co-founding New York City's celebrated Breads Bakery. His James Beard Award-nominated cookbook, Breaking Breads, along with national television appearances aplenty, helped cement his reputation as one of the world's most recognizable artisan bakers.
Everything at Bakey is prepared in-house throughout the day, following the bakery's "Love, Always" philosophy and its belief that the oven should always be baking something fresh. The Hallandale Beach café will remain kosher while serving breakfast, lunch and an extensive selection of pastries, breads and coffee.
The star attraction is, of course, Bakey's signature babka, available whole or by the slice in flavors including its famous chocolate version and almond made with premium German marzipan. Guests will also find challah, naturally fermented sourdough breads, New York-style bagels, croissants, rugelach, cheese sticks, burekas, breakfast plates, salads and sandwiches. Coffee receives equal attention, with beans sourced from Umbria, Italy, roasted off-site and freshly ground in-house before brewing.
The redesigned café seats approximately 50 guests indoors and another 70 outside in a bright, contemporary space designed by Alona Eliasi. Guests will also find catering options, wholesale offerings and seasonal specialties throughout the year.
Its hours will be Sunday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., with complimentary plaza parking available.
