If your holiday wish list includes more cuddles and fewer crowds, here’s your sign. The Humane Society of Broward County’s annual Black Furrday Adoption Extravaganza is back November 28 and 29, transforming its Fort Lauderdale shelter into the county’s warmest, waggiest alternative to mall madness.
As Cherie Wachter, vice president of marketing for the organization tells Browardist, “when you adopt from the Humane Society of Broward County, you’re not just saving a life...you’re giving hope to a pet who’s been waiting for someone to see them. [This event] is especially important because it shines a light on adult pets one year of age and older who are often passed by. With special pricing and waived fees for ‘Cuddlebusters,’ we’re giving these incredible animals a chance to find families who will love them. Not just for this holiday season, but for many more. This weekend could be the moment their whole world changes...and yours too.”
The two-day celebration means big savings. Select “Cuddle Busters” will have their adoption fees completely waived, and all dogs and cats one year or older are half off, translating to $100 off dogs and $40 off cats. A $25 administrative fee applies to fee-waived adoptions, and every pet goes home with vaccinations, microchip, spay or neuter surgery, testing, food and a limited VCA health plan.
Plus, the on-site vaccine clinic is open both days with a free microchip when you purchase a vaccine package or flea and tick preventative. Hours run 8:30 to 11:40 a.m. and 1 to 5:30 p.m., no appointment needed.
On the adoption floor, some true stars are ready to shine. Lucie, a five-year-old shepherd mix, is equal parts sweet, smart, and independent, great with kids and small pups and eternally treat-motivated. Bridget, just over a year old, is a brilliant, high-energy adventure buddy who can sit, spin, and paw on command, and she’s best paired with a feline-free home. And Rowland, a two-year-old brown tiger kitty with hazel eyes, has blossomed from shy to affectionate, happily snuggling, playing and purring his way toward his fur-ever family.
With waived fees, discounted adoptions, free microchips, and a shelter full of deserving faces, this is peak feel-good Black Friday energy. The event runs November 28 and 29 at 2070 Griffin Road in Fort Lauderdale. Adoption kennels open at 11 a.m. daily.
Go meet your new best friend this weekend at Humane Society of Broward County.
