If your ideal Saturday includes subtropical gardens, hands-on activities, live music and a few very photogenic police horses, Bonnet House has those weekend plans covered. Family Fun Day, presented by Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital, returns on Saturday, March 28, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the historic estate at 900 N. Birch Rd. in Fort Lauderdale.
The annual event unfolds across Bonnet House’s 35-acre property with a spring-themed mix of entertainment, educational experiences and outdoor art. One of the biggest draws is admission to the internationally acclaimed ZimSculpt outdoor sculpture exhibition, where guests can catch live sculpting demonstrations and browse an open-air marketplace featuring hundreds of Zimbabwean fine art sculptures available for purchase.
There’s plenty aimed at kids and families, too. The Gold Coast Youth Orchestra will perform live classical music in the courtyard, while the historic home will be open for self-guided tours with reenactors stationed in each room and an Artifact Treasure Hunt to keep younger guests engaged. Fort Lauderdale’s Mounted Horse and K9 Police Units will also be on-site for meet-and-greets and photo ops.
Community partners add even more to the lineup. AIA Fort Lauderdale and Black Architects in the Making will host a “Build Your Own Cityscape” activity introducing students to architecture as a career path. Sierra Club Broward Chapter will offer environmental education, History Fort Lauderdale will lead historical crafts and Art History in the Park with Catalina LeMaitre will guide a family-friendly artmaking experience. Food and drinks from Caruso’s Catering will be available for purchase, and the gift shop will have tropical gifts and native plants for sale.
Tickets are $15 for adults 14 and older, which is half off regular admission, while children 13 and under get in free. Tickets are available online or at the Welcome Center.
