Scarlet Lady is back in the Caribbean and she’s brought a brand-new spectacle with her. Virgin Voyages has officially premiered Booked: A Lola’s Library Story, a high-energy prequel to the cult-favorite Lola’s Library that sailors couldn’t get enough of aboard Resilient Lady. Now, the story explodes onto a bigger stage - the Red Room - with even more comedy, camp and jaw-dropping choreography.
The premise? Before Lola was a cabaret queen, she was a cruise ship librarian with a knack for getting into trouble. When she and her quirky crew open a cursed book, every story in the library springs to life. Think hip-hop chimney sweeps, steamy acrobatic fairy tales, Jersey Shore-inspired puppets and manga madness — all wrapped in Virgin Voyages’ signature wink-and-wild swagger.
The show comes from the No Ceilings creative team, led by Kim Willecke and Dennis Jauch, whose choreography and creative direction have powered TV franchises, fashion shows and Vegas residencies. The production’s sharp, imaginative movement comes courtesy of choreographer Dean Lee, whose credits span Janet Jackson, Dolce & Gabbana and The X Factor. Writer Jason Michael Snow brings Broadway polish from his Book of Mormon roots and his growing TV portfolio.
Virgin Voyages’ VP of Entertainment Richard Kilman tells Browardist and perhaps sums it best, “we’ve had such an incredible relationship with No Ceilings over the years, and when we saw how much our Sailors connected with Lola’s Library, we knew there was more of that story to tell. Booked became this exciting opportunity to expand the universe of Lola’s Library with a prequel that could live in the Red Room and bring that same sense of comedy, camp and world class choreography to life in a totally new way. It’s been amazing watching it evolve into something uniquely Virgin, bold, playful, and full of surprises.”
The show debuts just as Scarlet Lady unveils her glow-up: new suites, refreshed venues, upgraded cabanas and that iconic mermaid updated for her next era. If you’re sailing soon, this is one library where quiet hours definitely do not apply.
