Sticker shock is officially back in Broward County. According to AAA, the average price for a gallon of regular gas in Broward has now climbed to $4 — marking the first time the county has crossed that threshold since summer 2022, when global oil markets surged following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The milestone comes amid a rapid rise at the pump, with prices jumping roughly $1 in just the past month alone.

The surge isn’t isolated. Across South Florida, prices are climbing at a breakneck pace. Neighboring Miami-Dade is currently averaging about $3.93 per gallon, while Palm Beach County has pushed even higher, hovering around $4.12.

So, what’s driving the spike? AAA points to a perfect storm of global and domestic factors, including rising crude oil costs tied to geopolitical tensions, tightening supply and seasonal demand shifts. Those pressures have pushed the national average close to $4 as well, representing one of the sharpest increases since mid-2022.

Closer to home, Florida has seen some of the fastest increases in the country, with prices jumping dramatically in just weeks and adding noticeable costs to everyday commutes.
