If you've stepped outside lately and immediately questioned your life choices, the forecast isn't offering much encouragement. Current projections from The Weather Channel show Broward County remaining locked into daily highs above 90 degrees through at least the end of July, with several days climbing into the mid-90s. Forecast models also point toward August beginning on the same sizzling note.
That makes this stretch even warmer than what's considered typical for this time of year. According to Visit Lauderdale, Broward's average high temperature in July is 89 degrees, but this month has consistently been running above that mark. Even the briefest break in the forecast barely qualifies, with July 18 expected to top out around 90 degrees before temperatures quickly push back into the low-to-mid 90s. Overnight lows won't offer much help either, hovering 80 degrees for much of the remainder of the month.
The relentless warmth comes as a broader heat wave continues affecting much of the United States, with meteorologists warning that hot overnight temperatures can be especially taxing because they give the body little opportunity to cool down.
For South Floridians, that means now is the time to keep water nearby, limit strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest hours of the afternoon and seek air conditioning whenever possible. Beach days, pool afternoons and evening strolls may remain the best strategy until Mother Nature finally eases off the thermostat.
