How about a fresh reason to wake up hungry, Downtown Fort Lauderdale? Ophelia, the popular Coconut Grove bakery and café, will open its first Broward County location at Huizenga Park this fall.
Founded in 2025 by husband-and-wife chefs Ana De Sa Martins and Juan Vieira, Ophelia gained a loyal Miami following from its vintage-inspired mobile café. Both founders grew up in South Florida and sharpened their skills at acclaimed kitchens including Stubborn Seed, The Surf Club and Patisserie Chanson.
The Fort Lauderdale outpost will bring that fine-dining training to breakfast, lunch and coffee right alongside the New River. In details provided to Browardist, expect breads and pastries baked from scratch daily, locally roasted specialty coffee, house-made syrups and cold foams, plus grab-and-go options.
Among Ophelia’s best-known creations are its bacon, egg and cheese served on a house-made English muffin, coffee-glazed cinnamon roll, guava kouign-amann and brown sugar cinnamon latte topped with vanilla cold foam. (Ahem, for those who don’t know what a kouign-amann is, here’s a nice New York Times explainer.)
Its arrival adds another recognizable name to Huizenga Park, which reopened in January following a $15 million transformation. The downtown green space welcomed over 100,000 guests during its first five months.
Ophelia will become the park’s second concessionaire alongside Mr. Smash Burger. As reported by Browardist, Sweetwaters, a 291-seat indoor-outdoor waterfront restaurant, is also scheduled to debut this fall.
