Cuteness overload is coming.

Move over, thoroughbreds. There’s a new breed of speedster hitting the dirt at Gulfstream Park – and they’re under a foot tall with legs that move at cartoon-level velocity.

On Saturday, March 14, Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach swaps its usual horsepower for paw power with the inaugural Coastal Corgi Classic, a family-friendly day of short, controlled sprint races featuring registered corgis only. Yes, only corgis. Those stubby-legged sprinters will compete in four qualifying heats, with the top three from each advancing to a championship race for medals, trophies and ultimate bragging rights at the dog park.

Think your loaf-shaped legend has what it takes? You can actually enter your pup. Registration is open through Sunday, March 1, and owners must submit AKC registration documentation, current vaccination records and required health paperwork at check-in. On race day, check-in runs from 11 a.m. to noon at the Carousel Club Garden. All dogs must remain leashed before and after their heat, and handlers are responsible for their furry athlete at all times.

Every entrant scores a swag bag – think dog bowls, tennis balls and more – because even if your corgi doesn’t win gold, they are still champions.

It’s all happening at Gulfstream Park, 901 S. Federal Highway in Hallandale Beach, as part of the venue’s push for innovative, community-focused entertainment with strict safety and animal-welfare guidelines in place.
