If you’ve ever wished you could sneak into one of Florida International University’s most buzzed-about guest lectures, your moment has arrived. Hospitality mogul and nightlife king David Grutman is opening the doors – literally - for his annual FIU Chaplin School of Hospitality & Tourism Management class appearance, and for the first time, the public is invited.

Set for Wednesday, April 8 from 5 to 7 p.m., the event will take place at the FIU Student Academic Success Center Auditorium on the main campus at 11200 SW 8th Street in Miami. In past years, Grutman’s FIU talks have drawn an almost mythic level of celebrity drop-ins, with surprise guests ranging from Bad Bunny to Kim Kardashian, Drake and DJ Khaled. Translation: show up early, keep your head on a swivel and don’t be shocked if an A-lister strolls onstage.

This year’s lecture doubles as the official launch of Grutman’s new book, Take It Personal, which is currently available for pre-order. The hardcover dives into the mindset and hustle that helped turn Grutman into one of Miami’s most influential figures, with insights pulled from his journey building Groot Hospitality and shaping the city’s modern nightlife and dining scene.

Take It Personal has always been about the people, experiences, and defining moments that have shaped my journey, both the successes and the challenges,” Grutman tells Browardist. “Hosting this event at FIU is a meaningful opportunity to share those lessons with students and guests, reflect on my path, and talk about the importance of building genuine, lasting connections.”

Expect a mix of candid storytelling, business advice and behind-the-scenes anecdotes from one of the most connected names in the game, plus that signature FIU lecture unpredictability that’s made this series a local legend.

Attendance is free, but RSVP is required - and if history is any indicator, spots won’t last long.
