Skip the chocolates and roses this Valentine’s Day weekend and say yes to a love that sheds a little. The Humane Society of Broward County (HSBC) is hosting its annual Adopt a Sweetheart adoption event on Saturday, February 14 and Sunday, February 15, inviting South Floridians to find their purr-fect match and bring home a forever Valentine.

Cupid is clearly on staff this year. Select pets will have their adoption fees completely waived, while all pets one year of age and older will be 50 percent off, making it easier than ever to fall head over paws for a new best friend. Be it a couch cuddler, walking buddy or professional treat inspector, dozens of lovable dogs, cats and other companions will be ready to meet you.

The Valentine’s Day vibes don’t stop at adoption specials. On Saturday, February 15, from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., the HSBC Friends of Animals and Teen Club will host a Valentine’s Day bake sale, serving up sweet treats for humans with proceeds supporting the care of shelter animals. Consider it love at first bite.

Adoption kennels open daily at 11 a.m., no appointments required, so you can drop in, browse, and let the sparks fly naturally. Pro tip: preview available pets and complete a pre-adoption application ahead of time online to speed things along when you meet “the one.”

Before you leave with your new sweetheart, mark your calendar for another can’t-miss event supporting local animals. The VCA Walk for the Animals returns on Saturday, February 21, bringing the community together for a scenic walk, wagging tails and major fundraising for pets in need. It’s the perfect next date for you and your newly adopted sidekick, eh?
