Flagler Village’s monthly Thrive Art Walk is getting some major culinary and cultural pizzazz later this month with the AAPI Heritage Street Festival — a one-night celebration packed with some of South Florida’s buzziest food vendors, live entertainment and community-driven activations.
Set for Saturday, May 30 from 5 to 9 p.m., the free outdoor festival will take place during Thrive Art District’s monthly Art Walk, with Alma Matcha as its epicenter (701 NW 5th Ave. in Fort Lauderdale).
Curated by Alma Matcha, Temple Street Eatery and SOTO Sake, the event aims to spotlight Asian American and Pacific Islander culture through food, art, music and local makers as part of the larger monthly Art Walk experience in Flagler Village.
And the vendor lineup? It reads like a who’s-who of South Florida food pop-ups and communal favorites.
Attendees can snack their way through dishes and drinks from Alma Matcha, Temple Street Eatery, Pho Bar, Ceviche Dozo, Shojo’s Dojo, Mana’s Japanese Bakery, Ahmays Cuisine, Kubo, BMC and Uncommon Path Brewing. Kakigori Food Truck will also be serving shaved ice creations, while SOTO Sake plans specialty pours throughout the evening.
Beyond the food, the festival will feature live music from DJ Nat and Connect Records, plus a performance by PolyProud. Guests can also hang out in a mahjong lounge hosted by 888 Mahjong Social, check out ikebana flower arranging with Akiko Iwata, browse works from 4 Arrows Art and meet children’s book author Eugenia Chu.
Because the festival is happening within Thrive’s recurring monthly Art Walk, attendees can also expect the district’s usual mix of galleries, open studios and creative happenings throughout the evening, adding even more activity to one of Fort Lauderdale’s fastest-growing cultural corridors.
The event is free to attend with RSVP and open to all ages. Food and beverages will be available for purchase onsite, and organizers note the event will take place rain or shine with free parking available nearby.
