You’ve watched the videos: a crowd suddenly breaks into Michael Jackson’s “Thriller,” zombie arms fly and somebody’s otherwise sensible neighbor becomes a music-video menace. Now, Fort Lauderdale, it’s your turn.
Huizenga Park is hosting a community “Thriller” flash mob on Friday, October 30, alongside its Halloween Double Feature Movie on the Lawn. The downtown riverfront park at 32 E. Las Olas Blvd. is inviting everyone to get in on the synchronized spooky business.
Rusty moves? Two left feet? There’s rehearsal for that.
Free practices led by Lily Coniglio take place Wednesdays, October 14 and 28, starting at 6 p.m. beneath the Andrews Avenue bridge at Huizenga Park. The October 14 session runs until 6:30 p.m. All ages and skill levels are welcome, and attending a practice doesn’t obligate you to perform. Consider it a low-pressure opportunity to learn the iconic choreography before the big Halloween gathering.
The 4.5-acre park’s October calendar has plenty of other reasons to leave the couch. Its Community Market returns Sundays, October 11 and 25, from noon to 4 p.m., with local makers, small businesses, food vendors, handcrafted goods and a live DJ.
On Thursday, October 29, The Social Point Club hosts BOOgammon, a Halloween backgammon social with short matches, a “Haunted Ladder,” Trick-or-Treat Cards of Fate and a costume contest. Beginners are welcome.
Add sunset yoga, fitness classes and Yappy Hour for the pups, and it’s a happening October. First, though... those zombie arms need work, y’all.
