A new (very short) way to get to Bimini is here, friends.

Fun fact for South Florida travelers who love a quick escape: starting this February, American Airlines is launching what’s being billed as the shortest commercial flight in the world, hopping from Miami International Airport to Bimini in just about 30 minutes. Yes, really. By the time you finish scrolling your phone and take a sip of coffee, you are basically on island time.
The new nonstop route kicks off over Valentine’s Day and President’s Day weekend in February and will run three times weekly on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays. Departures leave Miami at 10:05 am, with return flights back to South Florida just before noon. The convenience factor is huge, especially with Miami already connected to more than 90 U.S. airports.
More importantly, this flight makes exploring Bimini easier than ever. Often called one of the Caribbean’s best kept secrets, the Bahamian island delivers white sand beaches, unreal turquoise water and a laid-back vibe that feels worlds away from South Florida, even though it is just 50 nautical miles offshore.
Many travelers base their stay at the always-stellar Resorts World Bimini, which blends resort style pools, dining, nightlife and a waterfront casino with easy access to local culture and excursions.
“This is a true game changer for Bimini,” Victor Karavias, senior vice president of operations for the property, tells Browardist. “As the closest Bahamian island to North America, these nonstop flights get vacationers from runway to sand faster than ever.”
For a spontaneous long weekend or a blink and you missed it international flight, this might be the easiest island escape Broward and Miami travelers will see all year.
