With Sunrise roots (and sharing his time in Coral Springs), Juan Duran is a true Broward-to-the-global-stage success story.

If you’ve scrolled through South Florida restaurant content in the last five years, chances are you’ve seen Juan Duran’s work. You may just not have realized the guy behind the camera and @juanbiteatatime Instagram and TikTok handle is a Broward boy through and through.
Born in Cali, Colombia and raised in Sunrise, Juan moved to Broward when he was four. “I’ve definitely seen Broward evolve in so many different ways,” he tells Browardist. “It’s kind of nice to see it from what it was to what it’s becoming.” His journey into food storytelling began in 2018, shortly after his father passed away unexpectedly. “I just remember he had so much he wanted to do but never got the chance to. I’d rather live my life knowing I tried than look back and say ‘what if.’”
So, Juan started posting. First photos. Then videos. He was in the trenches behind counters and kitchens at spots like Yonutz and Puffles, turning colorful creations into scroll-stopping moments. The work resonated. Invites started rolling in across Fort Lauderdale, Miami, Palm Beach and beyond. A community formed. His voice sharpened. His visuals leveled up.
And now? Juan has amassed more than 500,000 collective followers and is officially a Talent Resident with BuzzFeed’s Tasty vertical, producing national food content on one of the world’s biggest digital platforms. When the email came through, he was in an airport. “I wanted to freak out and jump,” he says. “But I had to compose myself.” The role is collaborative, creative and full-circle for someone who once followed Tasty videos from home.
Juan now splits his time between Coral Springs and Boston these days, but Broward is still a core storyline. “It’s where I started. It’s where I grew up. That’s never going to change.” He’s developing new series concepts for the holidays, recently wrapped his first international press trip in Barbados and still tracks every buzzy new local opening for when he’s home.
The way he puts it: your roots are your roots. You carry them wherever you go. And for Juan, Broward is baked in and we’re proud to call him one of our own.
