Broward’s thrifting scene is getting a boost. Goodwill South Florida is opening a brand-new retail store and donation center in Tamarac on Tuesday, March 10, marking the nonprofit’s first new Broward County location since 2018.

The more than 20,000-square-foot store will debut at 5837 N. University Drive with a grand opening celebration from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., complete with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, live DJ, hourly giveaways and an interactive area where guests can learn more about Goodwill’s workforce training programs. The first 100 shoppers through the doors will also receive a special gift.

Local leaders including Tamarac Mayor Michelle J. Gomez and Goodwill South Florida President and CEO David Landsberg are expected to take part in the opening festivities.

Beyond scoring secondhand deals, the new location is also expected to create about 25 jobs for local residents. Like all Goodwill stores, the Tamarac outpost serves a bigger mission: turning donated goods into funding for job training, employment and career development programs across South Florida.

That includes new workforce initiatives launching in 2026 focused on industries with growing demand, including HVAC and heat pump installation, solar installation and construction workforce training. The programs offer no-cost training and industry certifications to help participants build careers in the clean energy and construction sectors.

Inside the new Tamarac store, shoppers will also notice updated branding and a refreshed retail experience designed to highlight Goodwill’s mission-driven model. Every purchase and donation helps support job placement and training programs that serve thousands of South Floridians each year.
