Rum, racing and a mountainous medianoche sandwich are sharing the billing at Gulfstream Park this August.
Taste at the Track: Taste of Havana arrives Saturday, August 29, inside the Flamingo Room at Gulfstream Park, located at 901 S. Federal Highway in Hallandale Beach. The third-floor venue overlooks the racetrack, allowing attendees to catch live thoroughbred racing between rounds of Cuban food and cocktails.
The drink lineup travels deep into rum territory, friends. Scheduled pours include a Café con Teresa espresso martini made with Santa Teresa Rum, Papa’s Pilar Hemingway Daiquiri, Bacardi Superior Mango Mojito, Havana Club Cuba Libre and Ron Zacapa Cuban Old Fashioned. Other selections range from the Captain Morgan Veradero, a spiced take on an Arnold Palmer, to Malibu Rum’s Coco Misto.
Also...come hungry. The unlimited tasting menu includes medianoche sandwiches stacked with roast pork, ham and Swiss; ham croquetas; chorizo empanadas; guava barbecue chicken pinchos; ropa vieja; lechon asado and a Frita Cubana Smash Burger made with beef, chorizo, Swiss cheese and frita sauce.
Dessert brings arroz con leche, flan de caramelo, guava-lime Cuban sugar cookies and Tatianoff cake. Bonus... hand-rolled cigars and live Cuban music will round out the afternoon.
General admission costs $60 and runs from 1 to 4 p.m. VIP admission costs $85 and grants entry at noon, an additional hour of tastings and priority seating. Taxes and fees are extra, and attendees must be 21 or older.
Gulfstream Park is a Beacon of Browardist.
