Turns out healing can totally happen in a pasture in Davie, y’all.
In fact, for more than two decades, Bit by Bit Medical Therapeutic Riding Center has helped riders of all ages and abilities build balance, strength, confidence and communication with the help of its gentle herd of therapy horses.
Sessions take place outdoors, guided by licensed professionals, where calm air and soft snorts all become part of the process. The program started in 2002 with two horses and four kids. Today, there are eight horses and more than 6,200-plus therapy sessions completed. Riders include children with special needs, at-risk youth, disabled veterans and community members seeking a different kind of healing.
As Denise Panariello, president of Bit-by-Bit Medical Therapeutic Riding Center, tells Browardist, “The collaboration between our clients and these gentle, intuitive animals is nothing short of transformational. Progress often comes quickly, with improvements that are both visible and deeply meaningful.”
Now, Bit by Bit is bringing its community together for the first-ever Boots & Bridles Gala, happening Saturday, November 15 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Cotilla Gallery Alvin Sherman Library. Expect a relaxed but meaningful night with small bites, beer and wine that blends warm energy, rider stories, moments from the barn and a few chances to see just how much a horse, and this organization, can change a life. It promises to be about celebrating the people and animals who make this place feel like a next chapter for so many.
