The Southernmost city is about to steal the cinematic spotlight again. The 14th Annual Key West Film Festival returns November 12–16, rolling out five days of films, panels and beach-side soirées in one of Florida’s most storied backdrops. Named one of MovieMaker Magazine’s “Top 25 Coolest Film Fests in the World,” the event is truly a hybrid of Hollywood polish with island ease.
This year’s lineup opens with Eternity, starring Miles Teller and Elizabeth Olsen, and closes with Academy Award winner Chloé Zhao’s Hamnet, already buzzing as a Best Picture frontrunner. Other highlights include Joachim Trier’s Cannes Grand Prix winner Sentimental Value and a 30th-anniversary celebration of Heat.
Golden Key honorees this year include comedy legend Billy Connolly, acclaimed filmmaker Ondi Timoner and Oscar-winning costume designer Deborah L. Scott. Add in visiting critics from Variety, The Hollywood Reporter and Vulture, and it’s shaping up to be one of the most star-studded editions yet.
“We are very excited for the 14th edition of the Key West Film Festival,” Artistic Director Michael Tuckman tells Browardist. “From area premieres soon-to-be Oscar nominees like Hamnet and Sentimental Value to special appearances from Golden Key winners Billy Connolly, Ondi Timoner and costume designer Deborah L. Scott, this year’s festival truly has it all. And the best way to experience it is with the All Access Pass, which gets you all films, parties and events.”
And getting there just got easier: starting November 6, Spirit Airlines has the only nonstop flight between Fort Lauderdale (FLL) and Key West (EYW).
So yes, paradise and popcorn now come with a boarding pass if you choose.
Cinephiles rejoice and start packing now.
