Drivers who frequent Sunrise Boulevard should plan ahead this winter. Broward County is set to begin a major resurfacing project along the busy stretch between Sawgrass Corporate Parkway and North Flamingo Road, with construction officially kicking off January 11, 2026.

The work marks the third and final phase of a multi-year effort to improve one of West Broward’s most heavily traveled corridors, especially for those heading toward Sawgrass Mills, Amerant Bank Arena and points west.

According to a Broward County press release, the upcoming phase will focus on milling and resurfacing the roadway, following earlier improvements that included drainage system cleaning, repairs and the installation of ADA-accessible curb ramps.

All work will take place overnight from Sunday through Thursday, between 8 p.m. and 7 a.m. At least one travel lane in each direction will remain open at all times, and variable message boards will be posted to alert drivers of changing traffic patterns.

The project is scheduled to wrap up in July 2026, weather permitting. While nighttime construction may cause occasional delays, the goal is a smoother, safer driving experience through one of Sunrise’s most traveled commercial corridors.

Motorists are encouraged to allow extra travel time during overnight hours and stay alert when passing through active work zones.
