Your Saturday food crawl is getting an artsy detour, y’all.
Smorgasburg South Florida returns to Fort Lauderdale’s Flagler Village on Saturday, October 17, with a new attraction on the menu: Browardsburg Avenue. The dedicated area will showcase Broward artists and creatives through photography, prints, books, independent projects and community initiatives. A gallery installation will also feature local artists’ interpretations of Smorgasburg.
“This season, we’re putting a much bigger focus on Broward and the incredible community that surrounds us,” Beto Ortiz, community relations and media strategist for Smorgasburg South Florida, tells Browardist.
Browardsburg Avenue debuts at the season opener as the market introduces weekly programming spotlighting local art and culture. Smorgasburg runs Saturdays from 1 to 10 p.m. at 536 NE 2nd Avenue, with free admission. Consider that nine hours to eat, browse and discover who’s creating what in Broward.
And yes, come hungry. The season brings over 30 food vendors, with returning favorites The Lazy Oyster, La Llorona and Tropi Rollz. Six vendors announced in a September 30 Instagram post are Baskeik, serving Basque cheesecakes; Graze & Brie, with handcrafted charcuterie; Panancy’s Creole cuisine; The Ice Cream Bus; Wok & Riddim; and Bourbon Street Eatery, serving New Orleans-style beignets.
Other incoming bites include gelato finished with olive oil and balsamic vinegar, oversized French toast from a Chopped champion and Jamaican-Asian fried rice creations. Pick up a Smorgasburg Passport at the information tent for special $10 dishes from select vendors.
“At the same time, we want Saturdays in Fort Lauderdale to become a ritual for people across South Florida,” Ortiz says.
The season’s calendar also includes Spookysburg, a Diwali Curry Festival on November 7, Ube Fest and additional food, music, art and community events to be unveiled.
