As if Broward residents needed another reason to choose FLL, a new study has ranked Miami International Airport as home to the worst airport bathrooms in America.
Bathroom retailer QS Supplies sifted through thousands of Google reviews for major airports across the United States and United Kingdom, isolating comments that mentioned restrooms, washrooms, toilets or loos. Researchers then compared average ratings and the language travelers used when discussing cleanliness, dirtiness, odor and comfort.
MIA landed at the bottom of the U.S. rankings with a dismal 2.22-star average across 476 restroom-related reviews. Nearly one-third of those reviews, 31%, mentioned uncleanliness, while 8% included odor complaints. In other words, that trek down I-95 really does... stink.
Philadelphia International Airport finished second-worst with a 2.49-star rating, followed by Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport at 2.65, Seattle-Tacoma International Airport at 2.76 and New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport at 2.78.
Florida also claimed the throne at the opposite end of the porcelain spectrum. Tampa International Airport earned the country’s best bathroom rating at 4.43 stars. Fifty-four percent of its restroom reviews referenced cleanliness, while only 3% mentioned dirtiness.
Salt Lake City, LaGuardia, Minneapolis-Saint Paul and San Francisco completed the top five. U.S. airport bathrooms collectively averaged 3.4 stars, topping the United Kingdom’s 2.6-star average.
