It will be a multifaceted 250th b-day party in Miami for sure.

As the United States gears up to mark its 250th anniversary in 2026, Greater Miami and Miami Beach are preparing a celebration slate loaded with fireworks, military flyovers, cultural exhibitions and history-heavy happenings stretching across the year.

For a city incorporated in 1896, Miami’s role in America’s story remains surprisingly unique. It’s the only major U.S. city founded by a woman, Julia Tuttle, who famously convinced railroad tycoon Henry Flagler to extend his railway south after a devastating freeze spared her Miami River property in the 1890s. That move helped transform a sleepy settlement into the international destination known today.

Miami’s America250 programming also taps into the city’s layered identity as a gateway for immigrants from Latin America and the Caribbean, home to the “Ellis Island of the South” Freedom Tower and neighbor to the Everglades — the nation’s largest subtropical wilderness. Even the ancient Miami Circle archaeological site, dating back more than 2,000 years, gets a spotlight in the broader storytelling.

The festivities officially kick into high gear Memorial Day weekend with the annual Hyundai Air & Sea Show on Miami Beach. Nicknamed “The Greatest Show Above the Earth,” the event will feature demonstrations from all six branches of the U.S. military, parachute teams, offshore powerboat racing and live entertainment along the shoreline.

Summer brings another major centerpiece when the National Archives and Records Administration’s “Freedom Plane National Tour: Documents That Forged a Nation” lands at the Museum of Miami from June 20 through July 5, giving visitors an up-close look at historic American documents during the semiquincentennial celebration.

On July 4, Miami-Dade County’s signature America250 celebration takes over Tropical Park from 4 to 9 p.m. with fireworks, live music, food vendors and family-friendly programming. That same weekend, Bayfront Park’s annual Fourth Fest returns with Biscayne Bay fireworks and waterfront festivities.

Other buzzy happenings include a July 11 America250-themed Miami Marlins game at loanDepot park, a July 12 patriotic short film showcase at Deering Estate and Brightline’s planned “Freedom Express” experience connecting Miami and Orlando with patriotic storytelling and historical imagery.
