The MICHELIN Guide dropped its 2026 Florida selections today, and if you were hoping for a new Broward County addition, you'll find exactly zero surprises.
Despite what many would consider a breakout year for Broward's dining scene, the county's Michelin lineup remains unchanged. No new stars. No new Bib Gourmands. No new recommended restaurants. Just the same five establishments carrying Broward's culinary banner into another year.
Those five restaurants deserve their flowers.
Fort Lauderdale's Chef's Counter at MAASS retained its coveted One Michelin Star, remaining Broward County's lone starred restaurant. Heritage held onto its Bib Gourmand distinction, Michelin's designation for restaurants serving exceptional food at a good value. Meanwhile, Daniel's: A Florida Steakhouse, Evelyn's and Larb Thai-Isan all maintained their spots on Michelin's Recommended list.
Retaining recognition is no small accomplishment. Michelin inspectors revisit restaurants regularly, expectations only grow and consistency becomes the name of the game. Every chef, cook, server and hospitality professional behind those honors had to earn them all over again.
Still, it’s hard not to wonder what exactly Broward has to do to get another nod.
Over the past year, the county welcomed notable restaurant openings, saw several established favorites sharpen their game and continued building a dining scene that increasingly competes with neighboring markets – we could easily name-drop 25 buzzy restaurants. You can fill in the blanks, locals. Yet when Michelin unveiled its statewide Florida selections today, Broward's roster looked exactly as it did yesterday.
Meanwhile, neighboring Miami added a new One Michelin Star restaurant with Mutra, and West Palm Beach celebrated its first Michelin Star with Emelina. Across the state, inspectors handed out new stars, Bib Gourmands and recommendations. Broward received a polite pat on the head and a request to try again next year.
If you're looking for a thoughtful read on Michelin's growing influence and whether the guide still reflects the realities of modern dining, The Leftovers Miami published a particularly sharp and intelligent take earlier this week.
Until then, congratulations are in order for Chef's Counter at MAASS, Heritage, Daniel's: A Florida Steakhouse, Evelyn's and Larb Thai-Isan. In a year where apparently nothing changed in Broward County, they proved they're still among Florida's best.
