Miramar is adding a new cultural celebration to its calendar with the city's first Bahamas Goombay Broward, taking over Miramar City Hall Plaza (2300 Civic Center Place, Miramar) on Saturday, July 18. The free, family-friendly festival runs from 2 to 9 p.m., arriving just over a week after Bahamas Independence Day on July 10, which marks the island nation's 53rd year of independence.

Hosted by Miramar Commissioner Avril Cherasard, the festival shines a spotlight on Bahamian traditions with Junkanoo parades, a Bahamian Goombay Village, authentic island food, arts and crafts vendors, family activities and the crowd-pleasing Battle of the Conch Fritters, where local cooks will compete for bragging rights.

The entertainment lineup features Julien Believe, Stileet, Avvy, Sweet Emily, Jonny Cake, DJ Gangalee and DJ Bankz, bringing Bahamian sounds to the stage throughout the day. The festival will also honor Isaiah Taylor, a founding member of the Grammy Award-winning Baha Men, recognized for helping launch the group behind the global hit "Who Let the Dogs Out."

Admission is free, with complimentary registration encouraged. Guests can also purchase the "Join the Rush" VIP All Access Experience for $100, which includes an artist meet-and-greet reception, access to the VIP concert area beginning at 6 p.m., a Bahama Mama rum tasting, a premium position at the front of the Junkanoo parade and an exclusive Goombay swag bag.
