Let's get cosmic on the sands, shall we?

In just three short years, the Moonrise event has gone from an intriguing newcomer to one of Fort Lauderdale’s most buzzed-about fundraising spectacles. And, this weekend, it’s back with a cosmic twist. Presented by the Moss Foundation and benefiting Handy, the immersive beachside spectacle lands Saturday, February 7, from 7 to 11 p.m. on the private shoreline of Bonnet House Museum & Gardens.
“Over the past four years, Moonrise has built a loyal following, and we love seeing the same faces who’ve been dancing with us since day one,” Kirk Brown, CEO of Handy, tells Browardist. “This year, we went all out with the Space Rodeo theme, and we’re fully expecting guests to go all out on their outfits.”
That theme - an intergalactic saloon under the stars - perfectly captures what Moonrise does best: meshing nightlife, art and philanthropy into a highly visual, unforgettable night. Think cinematic design, fashion-forward crowds, curated entertainment and a beach setting that is intergalactic worlds away from a typical gala. Brown teases that “there are a few surprise entertainment moments we’re keeping under wraps, but trust us, they’ll be worth it.”
The impact, however, is very real. In just two years, Moonrise has raised more than $1 million for Handy Cares, directly expanding mental health resources for disadvantaged youth ages 10 to 25 across Broward County. Last year alone brought in more than $400,000. “We can’t wait to see what’s possible when the best of South Florida comes together to dance with us,” Brown adds.
