Rummy in our tummies.
Breakwater Hospitality Group

Rum lovers, clear this Saturday night already. The Wharf Fort Lauderdale is transforming its riverfront playground into seven tropical drinking destinations for a National Rum Day Festival on Saturday, August 15, beginning at 5 p.m.

The free festival takes place at 20 W. Las Olas Blvd. in downtown Fort Lauderdale. Its sprawling lineup includes a Frozen Bar, Mermaid Bar, Pirate’s Cove, Build Your Own Mojito Bar, Caribbean Carnaval Bar, Havana Nights and a Beach Bar complete with actual sand on the deck. Yes, our city now has more sand, y’all.

Across those stops, guests can explore over 100 rums from around the world, order tasting flights and try rum-infused dishes from Smashies, Carlos & Pepe’s and The Piefather. A steel pan musician and Caribbean stilt walkers will add to the island-style spectacle, while a VIP Cigar Lounge offers another place to sip and unwind.

“My pro-tip is don't just stick to one bar all night. Start at the Beach Bar to get in the spirit, work your way through Havana Nights and the Carnaval Bar, and save room for the build your own mojito bar, it's one of our specialties,” Emi Guerra, Co-Founder of Breakwater Hospitality Group, tells Browardist. “With over 100 rums and seven totally different themed bars, the fun is in hopping around and letting the night surprise you.”

Here’s something The Wharf had yet to announce, exclusively for Browardist readers... every bartender will create a personal specialty cocktail priced at $12. Each bar will display an “Ask the bartender for their signature drink” sign, creating a seven-stop secret menu across the venue.

Admission is complimentary and walk-ups are welcome, but RSVPing comes with two freebies upon arrival... a pineapple-infused rum shot and a Tortuga Rum Cake. Tortuga cakes will also pop up around the venue throughout the evening.

Children and leashed dogs may attend with a parent or guardian before sundown. After sundown, the venue becomes strictly 21-plus.
