Moon Pizza Pie, which shares a roof with Satellite Pinball Lounge in Oakland Park, Fla., is doing the almighty's work with this sign.

There are heroes among us, friends. Some of ‘em wear capes and others serve pizza and post signs telling grown adults to stop broadcasting their phone calls to an entire dining room.

During a recent Browardist visit to Moon Pizza Pie in Oakland Park (3501 N. Dixie Hwy.), one message stood front and center behind the ordering counter on a simple printout: “NO SPEAKERPHONE ALLOWED INSIDE BUILDING.”

A sad commentary on modern civilization, eh? Absolutely. A policy every restaurant, bar, store, waiting room, gym and public space should adopt immediately? Also... absolutely.

Browardist briefly asked an employee about the sign. The response was essentially a sigh, a slight smile and “don’t even get me started.”

No further investigation was needed as headphones are in existence... we have the ancient technique of holding a phone to one’s ear... and we even have doors leading outside.

If businesses must begin posting formal reminders that strangers did not consent to hearing both sides of your FaceTime call, perhaps Moon Pizza Pie has created the sign of our times.

There are excellent reasons to visit beyond its defense of basic social etiquette, too. Moon Pizza Pie serves killer pizza, crispy fried ravioli and a calzone so large and perfectly cheesy it may require its own Oakland Park ZIP code. Guests can eat inside the intimate dining room or carry their order into the adjoining Satellite Pinball Lounge

The pinball haven is operated by Dwight Slamp, owner of Fort Lauderdale’s Glitch Bar, so there are oodles of machines, flashing lights and nostalgic button-mashing.
