History Fort Lauderdale’s signature fundraiser is returning with serious hometown swagger. The nonprofit’s 29th annual History Makers event lands Wednesday, January 8, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the newly revitalized War Memorial Auditorium, celebrating the Florida Panthers while raising critical funds to preserve Broward County’s legacy.

This year’s event honors the Panthers’ legacy both on and off the ice, with Florida Panthers alumni Serge Payer and Peter J. Worrell confirmed for meet-and-greet appearances, including photo and autograph opportunities. The evening promises to blend cocktail-party vibes with cultural significance, featuring wine, spirits, curated bites and a rare chance to view Panthers memorabilia from the exclusive Wayne Huizenga collection, now housed with History Fort Lauderdale.

Beyond the nostalgia, History Makers is a vital fundraiser for the organization’s year-round work across museums, exhibitions and educational programs.

Executive director Patricia Zeiler says the night underscores why local support matters now more than ever. “We are thrilled to welcome Florida Panthers players Serge Payer and Peter J. Worrell to our History Makers fundraiser honoring the past, present and future of our hometown heroes sports franchise,” Zeiler said. “What makes this fundraiser extra special is that every ticket purchased will directly support our local efforts to preserve our heritage and foster a sense of pride and stewardship for the vibrant tapestry of our region's history.”

Tickets start at $125, with a limited number of $250 VIP tickets offering an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of the venue and the hidden world beneath the Baptist Health IcePlex. There’s also a timely holiday incentive: anyone purchasing tickets before December 24 receives a complimentary Sustainer Family Membership to History Fort Lauderdale, adding year-round museum access and perks to the experience.

For Broward locals, History Makers will certainly raise funds and remind folks that sports, culture and community pride are deeply intertwined here.
