A stretch of Broward County roadway is getting a new name. The Town Commission in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea voted this week to designate a portion of Commercial Boulevard as President Donald J. Trump Boulevard, adding the former president’s name to signage along the beachside corridor.

The decision applies specifically to a segment of Commercial Boulevard within Lauderdale-by-the-Sea’s municipal boundaries, between West Tradewinds Avenue and Ocean Boulevard. It’s a relatively short but high-profile stretch that runs through the heart of the seaside town and connects the Intracoastal Waterway to the Atlantic Ocean.

The vote by the Lauderdale-by-the-Sea Town Commission followed public discussion and community input during a recent meeting. Supporters framed the move as a tribute to Donald J. Trump, while others voiced differing perspectives during the public comment portion of the meeting. Ultimately, commissioners approved the measure, paving the way for signage updates reflecting the new ceremonial designation.

As noted in coverage by CBS News and the Sun-Sentinel, the roadway will continue to function as Commercial Boulevard for navigation and addressing purposes, with the Trump designation appearing alongside the existing name rather than replacing it entirely. Municipalities sometimes adopt these types of honorary or secondary road names to commemorate individuals or historical moments while maintaining existing mapping systems.

For residents and visitors, the change will primarily be visible through updated signage along the roadway. Commercial Boulevard remains one of the main east–west arteries in coastal Broward County, linking inland neighborhoods with beach access, restaurants and shops in the town’s walkable commercial district.
