Broward County’s educators, families and runners are lacing up for a purpose this
month. On Saturday, October 25, the Broward Education Foundation will host the School Culture and Student Support 5K Run along the Hollywood Beach Broadwalk, starting at 7:30 a.m. at Charnow Park. The morning event blends fitness, community and philanthropy - raising funds for mentoring and prevention programs within Broward County Public Schools.
Proceeds from the $45 registration fee will directly support initiatives like 5000 Role Models, Mentoring Tomorrow’s Leaders and the Athletic Leadership Academy - programs that empower students through guidance, leadership and positive engagement. Participants are also encouraged to bring canned goods for a Thanksgiving food drive benefiting local families in need.
Since 1983, Broward Education Foundation has worked to enhance the educational experience across the county, providing everything from classroom resources for Title I schools to scholarships for graduating seniors. The organization’s mission is simple yet impactful: mobilize the community to help every Broward student achieve their highest potential.
This year’s 5K carries added meaning as it honors the late Jason Jenkins, a beloved community leader and longtime Miami Dolphins executive who passed away in 2022 at age 47. Jenkins served as the team’s senior vice president of communications and community affairs and was instrumental in launching initiatives like “Football Unites” and Dolphins Challenge Cancer, which has raised more than $53 million for the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center. His legacy of compassion, service, and leadership continues to inspire those working to make South Florida stronger.
So, whether you’re a casual walker or seasoned runner, this 5K offers a scenic start to your Saturday... and a chance to invest in Broward’s budding minds.
