A unique piece of the islands lands in Davie this weekend — and it comes with fresh flowers, cultural tradition, and a hands-on experience you won’t find just anywhere. Sweet Aloha Ice Cream is hosting a special Lei Workshop on Saturday, April 25 at 9 a.m. inside its shop at 8600 West State Road 84, Suite A, welcoming guests for an intimate morning rooted in Hawaiian craftsmanship.
Limited to just 16 participants, the workshop pairs attendees with local lei-making expert Nani Makana and master lei maker Tara Awini Evans for a guided session on traditional techniques using fresh materials. Expect a step-by-step introduction to authentic methods, plus a finished lei to take home.
“We’re incredibly excited to partner with Nani Makana and Tara to offer this lei-making workshop to our community and share an important part of Hawaiian culture,” Sweet Aloha owner Jimmy Anderson tells Browardist. “It’s a wonderful way to bring people together through the spirit of aloha while learning a beautiful traditional craft that they take home and perfect and bring back to participate in our Lei Contest as part of our Lei Day Celebration happening on May 1st.”
Tickets are $35 through Wednesday, April 22, and $50 through Friday, April 24, with advance purchase required via Eventbrite.
And if you’re already marking your calendar, consider this a teaser: Sweet Aloha’s Lei Day celebration returns May 1 with a lei contest, cash prizes, and more details set to drop on their Instagram.
