Flagler Village is about to get a whole lot sweeter. Sweet Melody Ice Cream, the South Florida-born concept known for its small-batch scoops and music-driven identity, officially opens its first Broward outpost on Wednesday, April 1 at The Hive in Fort Lauderdale.
The 691-square-foot shop at 908 N. Flagler Drive leans fully into its retro roots, channeling a 1960s rec room vibe complete with vinyl spinning all day. It’s a fitting backdrop for a brand that’s always been equal parts dessert shop and passion project. Founder and “Chief Executive Optimist” Mike Romeu launched Sweet Melody in 2016 after losing his job, starting with a humble $50 ice cream maker and a vision inspired by his daughter, Melody. What began inside his apartment quickly grew into a cult-favorite Kendall ventanita in 2019, followed by a second location at The Citadel in 2024.
Now, with its third location and first in Broward County, Sweet Melody is hitting a major milestone in its 10-year run. And it’s just getting started. The Fort Lauderdale debut kicks off a broader 2026 expansion that will include multiple new locations across South Florida.
At its core, Sweet Melody is all about small-batch ice cream made with thoughtfully sourced ingredients, anchored by 12 classic flavors and four rotating seasonal drops. Fan favorites include Kooki Monster, a loaded cookies-and-cream remix; Strawberry Fields Whenever with housemade honey-strawberry jam; Abuela’s Flan, inspired by family tradition; and Cookie Buttah, packed with Biscoff goodness.
For spring, limited-time flavors like Banana Pudding, Tres Leches, Jon Dough and Revenge of the Twix are on deck through May. The Flagler Village shop also gets its own exclusive: The Hive, a buttery vanilla base with chocolate flakes and honeycomb candy. And in true Browardist fashion, Sweet Melody is teaming up with local favorites like Heritage, Wells Coffee, Cookie Head and LoveLee Bakeshop throughout April for collab flavors you won’t find anywhere else.
Vegan-friendly options like Midnight Chocolate Truffle and Strawberry Banana Sorbet round out the menu, ensuring there’s something for every kind of sweet tooth.
