Tamarac is cranking the festive meter back to high with the return of its Neighborhood Holiday Lights Contest, now entering year two and already feeling like a city staple. Residents across Tamarac are once again invited to turn their homes into twinkling showcases of holiday cheer, with prizes and neighborhood bragging rights on the line.

“Tamarac’s Neighborhood Holiday Lights Contest is a new tradition, but it has already become a nice way for residents to connect during the holiday season,” Joanna Johnson, communications and marketing manager for the City of Tamarac, tells Browardist. “With this being the second year, we expect participation to naturally broaden as more households become aware of the contest.”

To enter, Tamarac residents can head to tamarac.gov/LightingContest until December 19 and upload photos of their decked-out homes. The top displays will compete for gift cards of $75, $50 and $25, plus a “Holiday Lights Contest Winner” lawn sign that lets the whole block know who really brought the sparkle. Last year’s winners were

“What makes this contest special is the sense of connection it creates,” adds Johnson. “Neighbors come together to decorate, vote and celebrate one another’s displays, and that community spirit is exactly what the season is all about.”

From December 20 to 24, anyone in Broward can visit the Lighting Contest page to browse the gallery and vote for their favorite homes. The three top vote-getters will be announced December 26 on the City’s social media channels.

“For anyone visiting Tamarac during the holidays, we encourage you to explore our neighborhoods and enjoy the festive lights,” Johnson says. “A great pro-tip is to check the voting gallery between December 20 and 24, it’s the perfect way to discover which homes to look out for.”

Full contest details and voting info await at tamarac.gov/LightingContest.
