Saturday’s hockey plans can start with getting on the ice yourself.

The Florida Panthers are hosting Girls Try Hockey For Free on Saturday, October 17, from 8:45 to 11 a.m. at Panthers IceDen, located at 3299 Sportsplex Drive in Coral Springs. Open to girls ages 5–14, the clinic coincides with IIHF Girls Hockey Weekend and gives beginners a chance to test out the sport alongside fellow newcomers.

And their company for the morning? Well... an Olympic gold medalist.

Hayley Scamurra, a Team USA forward who won gold in 2026 and silver in 2022, will join the girls on the ice before meeting them afterward for autographs. The PWHL’s Las Vegas forward also has three World Championship gold medals and a 2026 Walter Cup championship on her résumé.

“We want to give girls a free opportunity to try the sport in an easy, welcoming setting alongside other girls who are just starting out,” John Colombo, VP of Panthers Foundation & Community Relations, tells Browardist. “We’re excited to welcome new players to the ice and to have Hayley Scamurra join us for the day.”

Families can register through the Girls Exclusive Try Ice Hockey for Free listing on the Panthers’ website.

The timing is pretty terrific for catching hockey fever. Brady Tkachuk just delivered consecutive natural hat tricks, joining a club that includes only three players in NHL history. And that evening, Florida hosts the Seattle Kraken in Sunrise at 6 p.m.
